I avoided painting for many years. I wanted to conquer the art world with some exotic medium. I majored in Printmaking in collage then moved to Denver and worked with master stone carvers in the area and played in bronze foundries. When I moved back to New England, I bought a kiln and created clay sculptures. Somewhere along the way I realized that I was hiding behind "the process" and decided to "make it real"...just me, a few tubes of paint and a brush. I started to paint things I'd seen...as I remembered them: street signs, a row of trees, the midnight sky, the setting sun. Then someone asked me to paint a portrait of a house. To my surprise, I enjoyed painting architectural structures. That led to painting local scenes and landscapes. Although I have had several years of formal art training, I have never actually taken a painting class. I think I bring an educated rawness to the canvas.
