Original Oil Paintings
Whether I am working in two or three dimensions, my artwork is about pattern, texture and emotion. I used to think that I had to create figurative art in order to convey feelings, but now I am finding moods in the shadows of an old barn, a row of trees, a stone wall or country road. I want viewers to see what I see and feel what I see. I am most inspired by the early morning light; it gets me going and sets the mood for the day. The afternoon's casting shadows bring out the reflective part of me. I give a lot of thought to the composition before I begin. There is always the subject, or the reason for the piece, and then the garnishes that support it. I seek to emphasize the important and minimize everything else. Currently I am working on picturesque scenes from local towns and villages in New England. It is a challenge to catch the sentiment of an area in a series or succession of paintings.
